Re: Photius as a parallel to 1Kor 11,10

Dear Stephen, your translation makes much more sense and I thank you so much so it. If you interpret τὴν ἐξουσίαν als symbol of authority, can't we see parallels to the Pauline usage in 1Kor 11, where he sees the covered head (by hair or a extra covering) as a symbol of the authority of the man unde...

Photius as a parallel to 1Kor 11,10

Dear friends, right now I'm trying to figure out how 1Kor 11,10 is to understand (διὰ τοῦτο ὀφείλει ἡ γυνὴ ἐξουσίαν ἔχειν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς διὰ τοὺς ἀγγέλους) and found a parallel passage at Photius: "Ὅτι ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς, φησίν, ἔφερεν ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς τιάραν, διότι τὸν προχειριζόμενον ἁπάντων κεφαλὴν κατὰ...

THE or A Messiah - Joh 4,25

Dear friends, Joh 4,25: Λέγει αὐτῷ ἡ γυνή, Οἶδα ὅτι Μεσίας ἔρχεται- ὁ λεγόμενος χριστός· ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἐκεῖνος, ἀναγγελεῖ ἡμῖν πάντα. Is it possible that the woman has *a* Messiah in mind, that means not a determined one? If so, it should be translated: "I know that *a* Messiah comes" instead of "*the* ...

Re: Mat 16,18 Πέτρος - definitely a proper Name here?

Maybe this passage explains the Name "Petros" out of the function of Simon as a Stone built on the rock (I'm just reasoning a bit)? You're a Stone and that's why I call you Petros. Definetly a Play of words - but what comes first - the Stone or the Name?

Function of fronting αὐτοῦ in Joh 3,21

Dear friends, what is the effect of putting αὐτοῦ before its Referent "τὰ ἔργα": John 3:21 Ὁ δὲ ποιῶν τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἔρχεται πρὸς τὸ φῶς, ἵνα φανερωθῇ αὐτοῦ τὰ ἔργα, ὅτι ἐν θεῷ ἐστιν εἰργασμένα. Is it possible to translate this Feature? Maybe "his own deeds" or something similar? Then, additionally, h...

Re: Conditional in Joh 18,36

Dear Prof. Conrad, the Author classified Mat 24,43 in the group present Irrealis and translated "Wenn der Hausherr wüsste....würde er wach bleiben und nicht zulassen, dass eingebrochen wird". That means he used the German present subjunctive and placed it in the present not in the past as you have p...

Re: Conditional in Joh 18,36

Dear Prof. Conrad, dear friends, in the new German "Griechische Grammatik zum Neuen Testament" the author quotes Matthew 24:43: Ἐκεῖνο δὲ γινώσκετε, ὅτι εἰ ᾔδει ὁ οἰκοδεσπότης ποίᾳ φυλακῇ ὁ κλέπτης ἔρχεται, ἐγρηγόρησεν ἄν, καὶ οὐκ ἂν εἴασεν διορυγῆναι τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ. Then he states that this must ...

Re: Conditional in Joh 18,36

Dear Prof. Conrad,

thank you again, indeed ! Short but helpful. Is there anything on this issue, which you could recommend ? As I said, I'm reading Wakker on this.
