Re: 1 Tim 1:7 - μὴ... μήτε

Hi Davis, Firstly, it's 1 Tim 1:7 not 3:7 (had me confused for a second or two), and it's best to understand the first μήτε as "either", giving, "Desiring to be teachers of the Law, yet not understanding either what they are saying or what they assert". Though there is no reason why the initial μήτε...

Re: Genesis 34:3

I'll just post a link to LSJ for the lexical definition:
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/tex ... arqe%2Fnos

Can mean "maiden, girl, virgin, unmarried woman who is not a virgin, unmarried woman, chaste, unmarried man".

Context defines meaning, as usual :)

The INTF's transcription of it is here: http://ntvmr.uni-muenster.de/community/ ... ormat=html / http://ntvmr.uni-muenster.de/manuscript ... pageID=120

Unfortunately the images aren't permitted to be on the INTF =/

Re: Pronunciation of initial I in Semitic names

Not quite sure what you mean by 'value' of the letter Iota, but in this case Greek ι = Hebrew י, which is a vowel-consonant (used to represent both a vowel and a consonant), and as such is very much a consonant at the beginning of Semitic names. For the pronunciation of ι, then see https://www.bibli...

Re: discorse: Athanasius On the incarnation

Is there a Critical Apparatus to this at all? I see that Archibald has omitted translating ὁ Σωτήρ/the saviour, so just wondering whether that's an oversight/purposeful omission. There are quite a few things in the translation that also don't add up, example: καὶ μὴ νομίσῃς ὅτι φύσεως ἀκολουθίᾳ σῶμα...

Re: Conjugation of ποιέω: ἐποίησα

I'm not quite sure what Bill Mounce says on this, but it sounds to me that you're either confusing the imperfect and the aorist, or are thinking in terms of the 2nd aorist and not the 1st aorist. Double check what Mounce says concerning the 1st aorist. Also, as we're dealing with an -εω verb, this m...

Archive.org has quite a few of 'The Oxyrhynchus Papyri' volumes there, several of which contain translations of the papyri contained within:
