Re: Next steps?

I think either would be profitable, but Decker's graded reader might be a little easier for you, and also expose you to more variety of NT literature.

Jude 3 Aspect

3 Ἀγαπητοί, πᾶσαν σπουδὴν ποιούμενος γράφειν ὑμῖν περὶ τῆς κοινῆς ἡμῶν σωτηρίας ἀνάγκην ἔσχον γράψαι ὑμῖν παρακαλῶν ἐπαγωνίζεσθαι τῇ ἅπαξ παραδοθείσῃ τοῖς ἁγίοις πίστει. [SBL] Okay, aspect mavens. We have γράφειν...γράψαι. What's the difference? I read the present infinitive of writing in general, w...

Re: πλάνη active or passive sense.

1) Deceit in English can also refer to the quality of deception. From dictionary.com: the quality of being deceitful; duplicity; falseness: a man full of deceit. 2) My understanding of BDAG is that it focuses on the NT and other early Christian literature, and not the papyri per se, though they will...

Re: Rev 19:7

Lol I just realized something, when you gave your replies and spoke about the last word in that greek line, I wasn't actually refferring to that word but the 'αυτου' and how it cannot say 'his' because the closest antecedent is the neuter lamb :) Whether something is grammatically neuter in Greek o...

Re: Why are there 6 principal parts instead of only 5?

The examples cited have already been show to have the same stem. You can use the terminology they have the same "root" (where I used the word "stem" as explained above), but it still begs the question. Alan Bunning You can either accept traditional terminology and formulations, or reject them, it's...

Re: μορφή as favor

Thanks Stephen. It is an interesting thought about from/to, and I have to admit that I would never notice it on my own. Thanks to you too, Ken. Does the fact that the LXX lexicon gives "favor" as one of the meanings of the word μορφή, while New Testament lexicons do not mention it, mean that the wh...

Re: Why three different forms of the same word?

Note that a similar variety of forms pertains in the LXX: Gen 8:6 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τεσσεράκοντα ἡμέρας ἠνέῳξεν Νῶε τὴν θυρίδα τῆς κιβωτοῦ ἣν ἐποίησεν... Gen 30:22 ἐμνήσθη δὲ ὁ θεὸς Ῥαχήλ· καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτῆς ὁ θεός, καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτῆς τὴν μήτραν· What's unusual about John 19 is that we have so many o...

Re: Shalom

Interlinears are the spawn of Satan, flesh eating bacteria, and yes, brain eating zombies. The reason Stephen recommends them is because his brains have been eaten! Of course, this happens to most people who stray from Greek and study (shudder) Egyptology. Remember all the warnings in the Bible abou...

Re: Using Strongs numbering system as a crutch

I have learned a little of the alphabet, how the letters appear in uncial and miniscule forms and i have learned the meanings of some words and a little of the grammar, the conjuctions that appear most often seem to have stuck in my head also. Thanks for that. I wouldn't suggest you use strongs for...
