Re: Learning Greek Verbs

Yes, but if you go about it logically you can more easily facilitate that memorization. I am in the process of vocabulary acquisition myself. I have been working through a list a verbs that is ordered by frequency of use. I don't know anything about the book you mentioned, and couldn't find a previ...

Re: Mt 1:19 AUTHN objcet or subject

Have you considered the possibility that αὐτήν is the object of the aorist infinitive παραδειγματίσαι? According to BDAG, it seems that this verb is transitive and your reading does not have an (expressed) object. This is certainly correct, and this is how all the translation take it as well. Besid...

Re: Learning Greek Verbs

Is there any easy (or what is the least difficult) way of learning Greek verbs? I have "All the Greek Verbs" by Marinone which is useful but not for learning verb forms. I assume the reason there is no Greek equivalent of, say, Barron's "501 Latin Verbs", "501 Hebrew Verbs", etc. is because there a...

Re: ΖΗΤΩ B-GREEK!

I'm very glad that Carl will continue as a member of the advisory board and as a contributor. He continues to be my best sounding-board for B-Greek, and was extremely helpful in deciding how to structure the new forum. His deep knowledge of Greek and enthusiasm have always been one of the main thin...

Re: Luke 6:20 vocative?

I'm just reading an article by Charles L. Quarles, "The Use of the Gospel of Thomas in the Research on the Historical Jesus of John Dominic Crossan", CBQ 69 (2007): 517-36 in which he writes, "Since the causal clause that follows the Beatitude in Luke uses second person forms, however, οἱ πτωχοί in...

Re: Romans 13:3b - Statement or question?

"QELEIS DE MH FOBEISQAI THN EXOUSIAN·" (Romans 13:3b). This is punctuated as a statement. Is it more likely to be a statement or a question? Sounds good! Thank you for the recommendation Carl! I'll be sure to go there when I have a question about Latin.

Re: Staging a New Testament meal

Here are some specific responses from the Classics list: You might want to look for A. Dalby & S. Grainger, The Classical Cookbook, Getty, 1996. it has a number of recipes adapted for the modern kitchen from ancient sources. Umm Is there really such a **thing** as a NT meal? The location of the meal...

Re: Staging a New Testament meal

Jonathan, it might be too late, but I posted this to the Classics list to see if anyone could point us to some resources to research it.
