Re: 2nd year Greek for middle/high schoolers
Garrett, this sounds amazing. In teaching Greek at the American Academy, which was a home school consortium, I usually read through a semester of NT Greek and a semester of Xenophon at the intermediate level. The last student I did that with was my own daughter. Part of this is knowing your student...

Re: 2nd year Greek for middle/high schoolers
Garrett, That sounds wonderful. So, it sounds like Barry's advice to read and use grammar as a reference to increase comprehensibility is a good plan. Have you tried to simplify stories for them? Sometimes it's called Leveled Stories, sometimes Embedded Readings. You take a text, and simplify it 2 ...

Re: 2nd year Greek for middle/high schoolers
Some parts are too hard for them for sure. But they are capable little readers. I just worked through Mark 5:21-34 with my two at home. We translated it three times over maybe a two week period-- summer got too busy to keep the class going. I had to give them some helps-- we haven't done infinitives...

2nd year Greek for middle/high schoolers
I've nearly finished working through Black's introductory grammar with my little Greek class (maybe 4 weeks left), and I'm wrestling with where to go from here. I think I have to take an inductive approach-- I don't think I can make my fifth grader work through an intermediate grammar, and I don't t...

τοῖς σάββασιν in Mark

Re: Use of the aorist infinitive in Mark 2:4
I’d strongly recommend against thinking of the historical present (HP) as a highlighting device and instead to think more concretely about what it signals. This was one of the most difficult chapter to write in my discourse grammar. The first version was flatly rejected as wrong by Carl Conrad, and...

Re: Beginner grammar in Accordance vs. paper
I have logos bible software, and find parts of it really helpful. It's much faster to search BDAG or Louw/Nida in logos than to use a paper copy. But I think you're better off getting a paper copy for a beginning grammar. Most people when they learn Greek, learn it twice basically. After a year of G...

Re: Pastor and student
I really struggled getting into Mark at the beginning, trying to figure out how I wanted to teach it. Ultimately, I've decided I'm going to try to read it left to right, without cheating ahead, letting Mark tell his story at his pace. Thanks for the links... You mean read it as Mark wrote it? Novel...

Re: Pastor and student
Welcome to the forums! How far into Mark are you? I'd love to see your sermons. I figure anyone who went through The Master's appreciates the value of expository sermons. I'm working through Mark right now as a series of Sunday school lessons/sermons (not sure how I'll give them). I'm in chapter 2,...

Re: Use of the aorist infinitive in Mark 2:4
With infinitives "tense" is a fiction of metalanguage. (Tense only occurs in the indicative verbs.) The infinitive προσενέγκαι explains what they could not do. The aorist refers to the complete event, including the end point of the event--they couldn't get the guy all the way to Yeshua. ...
