Re: Who is getting the captcha screen?
Yes, for about a week or two I have had problems logging in almost every time.

Re: Finding a List of Modern Greek Bible Versions
Also, if you could, I would love an update when you finish this project. It is something I would be very keen to read.

Re: Finding a List of Modern Greek Bible Versions
That sounds like a very interesting project. Here are some of the most recent ones: 1901 - Alexandros Pallis / Αλέξανδρος Πάλλης (in Modern Greek) 1904 - Neofytos Vamvas / Νεόφυτος Βάμβας (in Katharevousa) 1967 - Vasilios Vellas / Βασίλειος Βέλλας (in Modern Greek) - this is with the Hellenic Bible ...

Audio of the entire Gospel of Mark in Living Koine Greek pronunciation
I have just finished and uploaded to my website an audio recording of the entire Gospel of Mark in the Living Koine pronunciation used by BLC, etc. (i.e., basically historical Koine with the exception that we pronounce the aspirated stops as fricatives, which means it is basically authentic Koine pr...

Re: Intro - Joel Ellis
Thought I would add an even more meta-languagey text I was translating from Eusebius recently: Eusebius on Ps. 45.8: ἐπὶ γὰρ τῆς πρώτης ἐπωνυμίας, καθ’ ἣν ὁ Ἀκύλας «θρόνος σου, θεὲ» ἡρμήνευσεν, σαφῶς ἀντὶ τοῦ «ὁ θεὸς» «θεὲ» εἰπών, τὸ ἑβραϊκὸν ἐλωῒμ περιέχει. κἀνταῦθα δὲ ὁμοίως ἐπὶ τοῦ «διὰ τοῦτο ἔχρ...

Do you have access to TLG? The text is present and searchable there.

Modern Greek Translations of the Bible/New Testament
I am curious if anyone here has much experience with Modern Greek translations of the Bible/New Testament.
Which ones are used mainstream in Greece among different churches (that aren't traditionally reading the original)?

Re: Translating Origen
It is quite funny actually and a nice window into what happens so often in scholarship. I had come up with this whole elaborate theory based on nothing more than too much or not enough light reflecting on the turned up part of a page in a scan :) Sadly, there are parts of books where entire sections...

And, yes, again, persons who control German fluently will be better exegetes ["close readers", as called in the field of literature] than if they did not control German. (But beware of the false extrapolation: they are not necessarily better than someone else who does not control German f...

Re: "I just don't think it makes you a better exegete ... " Theology, exegesis, and Learning Koine Greek Communicatively
I am by no means no expert on this myself, but Paul Nation (2007), who seems to be relatively recent and in the mainstream for SLA stuff, has put forward the idea of the "four strands" in language learning/acquisition. His four strands are as follows: 1) Learning Through Listening and Read...
