Re: D05 and D06

Thanks so much, that is really helpful! I suspected something complicated was going on, but I didn't realise it would be that complicated (:

Is there an excellent/go-to resource for learning more about these manuscript issues?

D05 and D06

When I read Hebrews (in Greek) it seems that D* has a large number of variants the seem mostly not to important, making it seem (Making me think that D seems rather lax with its copying practices), but then what does it mean for D to be lax, is this one document or a group of documents? I've been tr...

Re: Definite article missing in 3:1

That helps me with both the question at hand, and gives me something to read up on. Much appreciated!

Definite article missing in Heb 3:1

Already knowing that the English reads 'the Apostle and High Priest' I had expected the greek to read "τὸν ἀπόστολον καὶ τὸν ἀρχιερέα". Im not aware of a rule that might indicate if we should expect the definite article here, so it leaves me wondering if it means anything that it has been ...

John 7:25-26. Do they recognise Jesus?

I have a question which is probably about the usage of οὐχ in a question, but I am not sure. There seems to me to be a minor discrepancy between how this question is understood in EGGNT (Murray) and WBC (Beasley-Murry) Does this question suggest that the crowd recognises Jesus but are not 100% sure ...

Re: Conjunctions and discerning time/sequencing

I don't know how well this matches your goals, but this entry from the Encyclopedia of Ancient Greek Language and Linguistics won't hurt. At the very least, the bibliography should help point you in the right direction. http://www.academia.edu/9060617/Temporal_clauses . Looks like it might be a goo...

Re: Conjunctions and discerning time/sequencing

If you don't mind my asking, how much Greek do you know? It would help me make any future responses more helpful. I am inclined to think that your question is about expressing temporal sequence Thanks for your detailed reply. I've completed a basic grammar, I've not yet moved onto an intermediate b...

Conjunctions and discerning time/sequencing

It seems to me that there are certain places where it is unambiguously clear that the author of particular narratives in the NT is intending to describe sequence, i.e. "on the day before the passover", "on the great day of the feast", etc... When the NT is not so explicitly clear...

Re: Blessed by the Spirit

Do these rules also apply for using ἐν for instrumental dative? i.e. Colossians 1:8 might be relevant to consider as well? When I first read this passage in greek I read it as "by the spirit".

Re: Blessed by the Spirit

Im not sure how far this grammar is going over my head, but ill chime in and see. I assume here we are discussing "instrumental dative"? Duff, page 49, states that "An instrument is an inanimate object by means of which the action of the verb happens." (emphasis is Duff's) Wouldn...
