unicode with windows 7
My old XP computer had a little button down in the tray that I could click on to switch between English (United States) and Greek Polytonic. I think at one time it also had Hebrew, but that disappeared at some point. When I would click on Greek Polytonic my typing would come up in Greek, and when I ...

Re: Is pronouncing Greek out loud important for learning Gre
when I saw Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" film I recognized and understood most of Aramaic before seeing the subtitles because of the similarities to Hebrew. Me too -- and what's also fun, if you know some Hebrew, is to listen to the first chapter of John's gospel in Arabic -- Arabi...

Re: Is pronouncing Greek out loud important for learning Gre
I can only tell you my own experience, which is that reading Greek aloud, or even better yet reciting it aloud from memory, FEELS like it helps my internalization of both Scripture and the language. I listen to a variety of audio recordings, and sometimes read along with them, out loud. I feel mysel...

Do you want a list of all results together, as in Jeffrey's output, or do you want it broken down by person and number, as in the examples I gave above?

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
@Jeffrey - I'm not sure I understand the output - taking the shorter list, how are there "6 results in 3 verses" for σῴζω? I see the 3 verses, each with one occurrence of σῴζω in the present indicative; what are the "6 results"? Same thing in the second list - I see 17 verses but...

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
thanks, Jonathan. I was a programmer long ago, but now all I do is a very little bit of html... how about these 2 queries so I can get a feel for how it might help me in my teaching. For Croy lesson 7, σωζω and εσθιω in the present indicative (any voice) For Croy lesson 20, αγιαζω, γνωριζω, κτιζω, χ...

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
I'm very interested in this method, Jonathan. I spend a lot of time picking through the NT (and LXX) looking for examples of whatever we're studying in my class, and the idea of being able to generate them automatically would be great. However I have no idea what software you're using, that takes th...

Re: Learning Greek on one's own
any beginner using Erasmian pronunciation should definitely ... --- reconsider if that is the way that they want to end up talking Greek. No doubt. I'm certainly proof that old dogs have a VERY tough time learning new tricks, especially if they're not in a position to completely abandon the old pro...
