I also just now ordered the Danker Concise Lexicon; thanks for that tip as well.

Re: Etymological New Testament
thanks so much for the information on Beekes. WorldCat shows it in 126 libraries worldwide, none of them close to me, but I've written to my friendly reference librarian in hopes of getting some sample pages scanned and sent to me, but she is on vacation until after New Years. I can't even find a &q...

Re: Etymological New Testament
thanks for your quick reply, Carl. I do occasionally notice the "etymological pointers" in LSJ and BDAG. When you write "Of course it's fun -- a game to play -- but not something to take very seriousy" by the "it" do you mean etymology in general? I can certainly see th...

Re: Etymological New Testament
Thanks for providing the Herodotus quote. I appreciate it. sooo.... if one were to want to investigate the etymology of θεος where might one look? I bought John Michael Wine's book, both out of curiosity to see what he's up to and also because I'm interested in etymology; having looked it over, it s...

Re: Etymological New Testament
Thanks so much for bringing this book to my attention -- I just ordered a copy for my husband, who is an absolute fanatic about Indo-European roots. This is obviously not the place to defend such an approach, which for him is more of a spiritual matter than academic anyway. My interest is in getting...

Re: Poll: how good is your Greek?
I was able to get to the poll and vote by going through the index, Other.
But when I just clicked on the link from my email, even when I logged in, it just took me here, to where I could "reply."
I'm set now -- just thought others might end up here as well.
Thanks!

Re: Poll: how good is your Greek?
I read New Testament Greek, but regularly need a lexicon but I can't figure out how to reply how to respond to this poll -- I'd have thought there would be a multiple choice thingy -- I see the results so far, but only see "reply" as a response option. possibly it's my browser? I got here ...
