Re: Dearth of images ὑπολύω / ὑποδέω. Suggestions?

Even if a person has to pay for an image, it is worth it. Randall Buth's LKG1 book has 1000 drawings. But these drawings are complex drawings (scenes, and not single images.) What a Koine Greek picture book needs (Something like Richard Scarry's picture book - German or English) is lots of individua...

Re: Am working on a Greek NT text/audio phone app

I have one suggestion, after reviewing the Logos app. It takes longer to visually analyze a word than to hear it (at least for Greek text (an L2)). So your app should be able to adjust speed, and also to highlight the word before one actually hears it. It would be good to have both those settings be...

Re: ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας σου ... ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου

Why the variation of ἐξ and ἐν? Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ἰσχύϊ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου, καὶ τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν. The above text is part of the Shema (Deut. 6:4-9.). In the NT, it is found in Mt 22:37 (ἐν, ἐν, ἐν), Mk 12:3...

Re: κάθου! κάθισον! καθίσατε!

Carl posted something about this somewhere. κάθου is something like, "Take your seat," "Grab a seat" while κάθισον is more like 'Sit down!" "Sit".

Re: Grammatical Terms in Greek

Rico's new book, Polis: Speaking Greek as an Ancient Language, Level One, Teacher's Volume , Polis Institute Press, Jerusalem, 2015, (cf http://www.polisjerusalem.org ) has a list of 113 grammatical terms on pp. 7-10. Dickey's book is really the only real popularized authority I know of as yet which...

Re: Campbell: Advances in the Study of Greek

When reading the chapter on lexicography, Campbell says the following on page 88: Subsequent to John Lee's study of New Testament lexicography, Frederick Danker produced The concise Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament. In response to critiques of previous methodology, Danker's concise lexicon ...

Re: Campbell: Advances in the Study of Greek

I've been reading through this book lately. Perhaps we should have a subforum on this book so we can create nested threads. My comments are as follows: On the middle voice. I really wish that Campbell had listed the following books: (1) Susan Kemmer: The Middle Voice Amsterdam; Philadelphia: John Be...

Re: Help me teach this class

Jonathan,

Give us a class recap. How did it go? Where did you have to change your plan if you did change it. What took more time than you thought, what less time? What feedback did you get from your students?

Re: Help me teach this class

βλέπω εἰς τὰ πρός. I've been trying to find instances of εἰς τὰ πρός and cannot find them. Perhaps in the meaning of 'the stuff with me' , but not opposite εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω. Perhaps the word πόρρω (cf. LSJ πόρρω, -ωθεν, -ωτέρω, v. πρόσω, πρόσωθεν, etc.) would be a better word fit. So βλέπω εἰς τὰ πόρρω...
