Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

This manuscript is a 12th century codex of the four gospels, housed in the University Library in Basel and known as GA 2 in the standard numbering system. There is an online colour image of the page at http://ntvmr.uni-muenster.de/community/modules/papyri/?site=INTF&image=30002/undefined/2520/1...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Thanks. However, I try to read the Greek NT daily (NA28 & UBS-5) and have no problem speed reading the minuscule type set. The modern Greek script used in the NA and UBS GNT's is set to be easily read after-all. We also benefit from the Greek letters not being in joined-up handwriting. Be willi...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Excellent! How on earth is someone supposed to make out those letters? That is, how would a person know how to translate this since (for me at least) the letters are so difficult to make out? Training. This is an example of minuscule handwriting, and as far as these things go, it is pretty straight...

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Re: Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

Addendum: My friend just emailed me and said it isn’t from Revelation since they did not have that MS in Basel. I am thinking somewhere in Ephesians :?:.

Needing Help with Erasmus Exemplar

A friend of mine just returned from Basel, Switzerland and examining some of the Greek MSS used - and annotated - by Erasmus. He sent me a photo that I have included in this post of a MS that Erasmus underlined or sectioned off a portion of the NT. Problem is, my friend does not know which MS it was...

Re: Is Liddell-Scott-Jones (LSJ) Relevant to Koine'?

Got it. Thank you all. What throws me off is that I have read where some grammarians have bemoaned the state of LSJ, such as the quote below: No one has drawn more attention to the methodological issues and, well, let’s face it, flaws, in our New Testament Greek lexicons than John A. L. Lee. In a go...

Is Liddell-Scott-Jones (LSJ) Relevant to Koine'?

I seem to read conflicting opinions from linguists on this issue as it relates to Koine' literature. If yes, would you say that LSJ is on the same level of authority as, say, BDAG?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Hendiadys?

I'm still not entirely following the logic of the proposed interpretation referenced in the original post. The significance of the get (βιβλίον ἀποστασίου) is to free the divorced woman for remarriage. For the husband to dismiss his wife without granting her the legal paperwork leaves her in a very...
