Re: Hebrew OT vs LXX
You might also try Bruce Longenecker's Biblical Exegesis in the Apostolic Period (Second Edition) . I don't have it available at the moment, but I think that it does go through each quotation and/or allusion from the Old Testament and specifies whether it is LXX or Hebrew or neither. That wasn't the...

Re: stems/roots
Jesse/"David": I especially like that you are trying to do things that actually make sense rather than just doing whatever people have told you to do. I think your idea makes sense as long as you make sure that learning the roots (rather than the lexical forms) allows you to more fluently ...

Re: Greek: what motivates you?
For myself, I remember being in a bookstore with my family when I was about 6 years old, and seeing Greek letters on some decorative item like a plate, perhaps an ΙΧΘΥΣ or something else Christianese. I remember asking about it and my dad explaining it a little and then at home he showed me his Gree...

Re: Living Koine vs. The Rest of the World
One thing that I rely on for English-only students to progress in their reading ability is "just right" books. This is something else that might be worked on by some B-Greek people. The idea is that when one is learning to read in a language, it is important to be reading something that pr...

Re: Hello from Raleigh NC
Hi jtsmythe, It is disappointing that you have had such a trying experience so far. Of course I don't know any of your professors or practically anyone in NC, but what often goes under the misnomer of "rigor" is simply bad instructional practices and/or bad language learning practices. For...

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
I'm not sure I understand the output - taking the shorter list, how are there "6 results in 3 verses" for σῴζω? I see the 3 verses, each with one occurrence of σῴζω in the present indicative; what are the "6 results"? Same thing in the second list - I see 17 verses but not 40 re...

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
Using Logos, I was able to do the following. I don't think I'm in copyright violation. lemma:σῴζω@VP?I Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament, 27th Edition 6 results in 3 verses 1 Cor 15:2 διʼ οὗ καὶ σῴζεσθε, τίνι λόγῳ εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν εἰ κατέχετε, ἐκτὸς εἰ μὴ εἰκῇ ἐπιστεύσατε. 1 Pet 3:21 ὃ καὶ ὑμᾶς ἀντ...

Re: Generating examples for verb charts
Has anyone done this with Logos or any other program? I haven't tried it before, but I expect it's possible.

Re: 1 Cor. 11:12 and Col. 1:16
I just wanted to put the Unicode Greek in: Does 1 CCor. 11:12 clearly say that "all things" are of God (including all men and women), or could it be taken to mean that all men and woment are of God? 1 Corinthians 11:12: ὥσπερ γὰρ ἡ γυνὴ ἐκ τοῦ ἀνδρός, οὕτως καὶ ὁ ἀνὴρ διὰ τῆς γυναικός· τὰ ...

Re: Best Greek NT Commentaries
I'm just trying to remember what I used in college. I think another good one was Alford's Greek Testament. I haven't used the Cambridge series but I've heard that other people like it. Other "big" ones are the Continental series, Anchor Bible, and Yale. But I'm not familiar with them. I ju...
