Re: Help with kai (Rev 12:2)
The Greek used in Revelation, like Carl said, behaves a little differently than what one might expect. You might get a better answer for this question by looking at how kai is used within the book of Revelation than by looking at Koine Greek as a whole. I have sometimes found this to be insightful. ...

Morphology and word meaning methusko vs. methuo
First off, I apologize for not posting the words in Greek; I do not know how to do so on my phone. Do either of these verbs refer to a particular stage of the drinking process? I have access to BDAG, but, except to specify what one is getting drunk with, I don't understand why one would be used over...

Re: Simpson on the Papyri
I don't exactly know what he is saying. If he means that the Egyptian papyri are good for grammar but not for doctrine, he would be stating for believers what need not be said. If he is arguing that the bible is written in part koine greek and part "Holy Spirit" greek then, in my opinion, ...

Re: Words for divisions of time
You have really exceeded my hopes for help in this thread. Thank you, Stephen. I know I need to go beyond the parsing level of searches, but I do not have the resources needed to do grammatical searches. To make matters worse, my computer skills are so poor even using the word "skills" in ...

Re: Words for divisions of time

I am hoping in the near future to start composing in koine greek and thought that book would allow me to learn related vocabulary by substituting ...

Words for divisions of time
I am trying to determine the different ways in which New Testament authors kept and referred to the passing of time. I am particularly interested in the ways they divided time into days and hours. In order to do this, I am searching how the following terms are used throughout the New Testament: ωρα,...

Re: ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ: objective or subjective genitive?
You are right on about the UBS having more variants listed and that was one of my considerations as well. Because the nestle-Aland has a more complete critical apparatus, I knew I would end up getting it anyway so ultimately that was not the deciding factor for me. The only variants listed in the re...
