Re: Collation format

ID should be large enough to accommodate everything in Sinaiticus/Vaticanus. Those were already accounted for and there still will be about 50,000 slot ID's free for the future. I think smaller is better, but I am guessing we will probably have to go with a 4-digit ID, because people will probably ...

Re: Collation format

If I understand correctly, this document is about labeling slots that have been identified by some other process, did I get that right? I think the scenario looks like this: Someone like Alan prepares a database with slots for all known texts using some algorithm that aligns the texts, perhaps with...

Re: Collation format

I am quite sure I am missing something here because my first question is, "why not allow greek letters to be used for Slot ID's and allow a variable length slot id?" (If the concern were about storage space, we wouldn't use base 58, but something more compact.) i.e. The Slot ID for ονειδι...

Collation format

If you have any interest in being able to download the CNTR transcriptions in some type of collation format (see https://greekcntr.org/manuscripts.htm ), you ought to take a look at some of the ideas being proposed at https://greekcntr.org/slots.pdf . We are trying to come up with a standardized dat...

Re: Scribes don’t augment right

It might be interesting to see some examples of missing augments, especially if they are pretonic. I will try to remember to keep a list of them as I come across them while I am morphologically parsing the texts. I don't remember seeing very many of them, but just enough to raise a flag with me. So...

Re: Scribes don’t augment right

Without checking I don't know for sure, but I'd expect that the majority of unaugmented verbs in Perseus are in poetry, particularly since Perseus is heavily weighted toward the Classical period. "Both the syllabic and temporal augment are frequently omitted in metrical inscriptures of all per...

Scribes don’t augment right

I have noticed a lot of words where the scribe leaves off the augment when it should have been present according to the normal rules of conjugation (and sometimes even puts augments on words where it doesn’t belong). Perseus has a lot of such forms labelled as “unaugmented”. Is there a pattern or ce...

Re: Legitimate word forms?

None of the thousands of textσ with millions of words online at TLG has μετοξύ. It does not appear to be a form recognized by editors. I am wondering if the editors altered the word to fit the norms, or if it didn't exist in those texts. The word does show up in a number of other texts if you googl...

Re: Legitimate word forms?

LSJ actually has an entry for μετοξύ. Here it is: μετοξύ, A v. μεταξύ. Make of it what you will. That's interesting. I could not get it to come up on Perseus. So I looked at what I thought was a PDF of LSJ, and it wasn't in there. Turns out I must have an earlier LS (no J) version. So is there a on...
