Re: Invitation to Improve a New Bible Version
Perhaps "was with God in his [i.e., God's] home", or "was with God where God dwells" (or, "was with God where he dwells") would work. Besides conveying the thought accurately, I am trying to avoid phrasing that sounds awkward or unnatural in English. The translation is ...

Re: Invitation to Improve a New Bible Version
Jason, many thanks for your feedback. You have the honor of being the first to give feedback publicly. :D You've raised some insightful questions. I'll respond at greater length in another post. Do you think "at home with" fits better as a translation of προς + acc. in this context? Change...

Re: Invitation to Improve a New Bible Version
Now at a later stage of the project ( I just posted chapter 15 of John the other day), I am calling again for comment/feedback on my Bible version, the DDV. Here is what I just posted about it on Textkit: I'm in the process of revising my translation from the Greek of the Gospel of John. I would wel...

Re: Why ἡμᾶς in 2 Thess 1:4
Actually, "swimming" in English is a gerund or participle. "To swim" is the infinitive, also given as "swim". (My inner English teacher peeks out sometimes; I was one once, as well as a Spanish and Latin teacher.)
Good explanation otherwise, though.

Re: Biblical Greek Dictionary and Parsing Practice App (iOS)
Regarding the app, do you also plan to make an Android OS version? I have an iPad, but it's an older one that can't be updated past OS 9-something. But I have an Android system on a Samsung tablet I bought last year. I'm not a beginner, but am always on the lookout for materials for beginners who ma...

Re: Best Passages to Read after 1st Year Greek
I don't know if his format is compatible with yours, but John Barach at http://www.greekdoc.com/bible/index.html has an online Septuagint with links to an analytical lexicon and parsing info. Perhaps you could work together. As far as I know, his LXX is completely tagged. Since he has it with Englis...

Re: Best Passages to Read after 1st Year Greek
This site looks very promising, Jacob. I've done a little digital flashcard work with Anki, so like the concept. The listings for the vocab frequency per chapter/passage look like they will be helpful. My LXX vocab skills aren't as good, so I will be glad of the help for that part also. Thanks for s...

Re: ἐκ λύπης 2 Corinthians 9:7
Why does ἐκ λύπης mean reluctantly or grudgingly according to most translations, instead of out of pain? When working with a Greek text, it is better to learn to understand the Greek as Gre...

Re: Septuagint translation of Daniel 11:35
There is no question that the Biblical authors chose their words carefully, for maximum effect and to communicate and teach. It is easier to discern the possible reasons for those choices when you really know the languages as languages . The old "tools for exegesis" model, while valid to a...

And when it's not quite normal Greek, that can also be an incentive to learn Hebrew, which is always a plus!
