Re: John 20:21 -- ἀποστέλλω vs πέμπω
Your method seems to me less helpful for analyzing εἰδέναι and γινώσκειν since they appear to lack the same degree of differentiation. Okay. I understand how just glosses without a theoretical structure of meanings is not so easy to work with. Let me point it out a little. I think they have almost ...

Re: John 20:21 -- ἀποστέλλω vs πέμπω
I am sorry for the tone of my post. It was seemed abrasive, but it wasn't intended to be. The word pairs you are looking at are more than just word pairs. They have subjects. Those subjects have a different appreciation of what the words mean, or are at a different stage in the realisation of the ve...

You guys are highlighting the whole words in red, but I think you are only thinking of them in terms of their lexical meaning, ie your discussion is about the meaning of the word in an abstract unconnected-with-the-players-involved way of looking at it . I agree, and it is impossible to advance mor...

Re: Introduction: Roger McDaniel
Thanks for the welcome. It only took me about 10 minutes of clicking around before the thought occurred to me, "Hey, maybe I don't know nearly as much as I THINK I do... (or NEED to)." Just sayin... By the way, I just got home and checked, my Readers Testament is the Richard J. Goodrich, ...

Re: A word for groceries - ὀψώνια?
Would any of these work? I don't think I have ever seen #3 or #4 "in the wild," but I am reasonably sure I have seen the others in Plato. You likely already know several other commonly used words (like χρήματα which I know that you know ;)), so I tried to operate under the assumption that ...

Re: John 20:21 -- ἀποστέλλω vs πέμπω
It is (as best I recall it) as Dr. Lovell frequently stated it in an exegesis class, and in private conversations where we discussed it further. I believe he held it as a "general principal", though not a "hard and fast rule". I believe that he was urging us as 1st or 2nd year G...

Re: John 20:21 -- ἀποστέλλω vs πέμπω
"While it is possible that a writer uses two different words merely to avoid repetition, adding variety in speech so to speak, it is far more likely that there was at least some (perhaps subtle) distinction in two closely placed and similar terms. It seems to me that, if two words meant exactl...

Note: I intentionally searched for a word in each reference so that one of the words in the link will be highl...

Re: A Greek Journal
Βάλλω being a movement, the logical relationship between one thing and another is where it is goin, so προσβάλλω might be okay. Perhaps you could put what you were shooting at in the dative, and the lead in the accusative. This is what I suspect as well. I will do a little digging this evening, and...

Whatever it was intended for, I don't mind to repurpose it. But I'll be sure to "pay it extra."
