Re: The Word Συντελεία in a Commentary on the Book of Isaiah
Thank you for the information. I understand that words can acquire different meanings with the passage of time, so that morphology alone does not always facilitate the means of determining the meaning of a word in a particular context. Since the meaning of a word often depends on how people use it ...

The Word Συντελεία in a Commentary on the Book of Isaiah
Commentary on the Prophet Isaiah attributed to Basil of Caesarea, chapter 2, extract from section 66 (comments on Isa 2:2): “Ὅτι ἔσται ἐν ταῖς ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις ἐμφανὲς τὸ ὄρος Κυρίου καὶ ὁ οἶκος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐπ' ἄκρων τῶν ὀρέων. Ἔσχαται ἡμέραι αἱ προσεγγίζουσαι τῇ συντελείᾳ τοῦ χρόνου τούτου λέγονται.”...

Re: Translation of a Greek Sentence
Yes. Thank you for the explanation. The writer mentions two meanings which the word συντελέω has in different contexts: “[Καὶ ς]υνετελέσθη ὁ οὐρανὸς [καὶ ἡ γ]ῆ καὶ πᾶς ὁ κόσμος αὐτῶν καὶ συνετέλεσεν ὁ Θεὸς ἐν [τῇ ἡ]μέρᾳ τῇ ἕκτῃ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ, ἃ ἐποίησεν, καὶ κατέπαυ[σεν ἐ]ν̣ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἀπὸ π...

Re: Translation of a Greek Sentence
Based on the sentence structure alone, I cannot tell which of the two Greek words correspond to the two English words in the translation. In the Greek language, words can be put in any order. But on the basis of the context, it seems to me that the word συντελεία is rendered as “end,” and τέλος as “...

Translation of a Greek Sentence
Commentary on the book of Genesis attributed to Didymus the Blind, extract from the comments on Ge 2:1-3: “Τὸ «συνετελέσθη« ὁτὲ μὲν τὴν φθορὰν σημαίνει, ὁτὲ δὲ τὴν ὕπαρξιν. Ὅταν γοῦν τὸν Σωτῆρα ἐρωτῶσιν οἱ μαθηταί· «Πότε ταῦτα ἔσται, καὶ τί τὸ σημεῖον τῆς σῆς παρουσίας καὶ συντελείας τοῦ αἰῶνος;«, π...

Re: Finding Old Greek-Latin Lexicons
I had received a reply too in which she also mentioned a certain work, Corpus Glossariorum Latinorum, by Georg Goetz.

Re: Finding Old Greek-Latin Lexicons
Thank you for the information. Since Eleanor Dickey has written a book in which she discusses monolingual Greek lexicons, she may also know about the bilingual lexicons.

Re: Finding Old Greek-Latin Lexicons
I don't know whether Ryan has included Latin, but the best online source for ancient lexica is Ryan Baumann's: https://dcthree.github.io/ancient-greek-lexica/ The lexical works on the page are in the Greek language, and search results refer to TLG, which contains only Greek texts. Very old Greek-La...

Re: Finding Old Greek-Latin Lexicons
Yes, the link does not list Greek-Latin lexicons but deals with monolingual Greek lexicons. Ancient and medieval monolingual Greek lexicons are discussed in Eleanor Dickey’s book Ancient Greek Scholarship, pp. 87-105: 3.2 Lexica 87 3.2.1 Hesychius 88 3.2.2 Suda 90 3.2.3 Etymologica 91 3.2.4 Aristoph...
