εὐθέως in Mat 25,15f
Dear Friends, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν εὐθέως πορευθεὶς δέ ὁ τὰ πέντε τάλαντα λαβὼν (Mat 25,15f) Does εὐθέως modifiy the preceding verb ἀπεδήμησεν or πορευθεὶς ? My own first impression is, that εὐθέως modifies more often the forthcoming verb, even if it's a participle, but I'm not sure in this case. Thank yo...

Joh 1,18 - force of the present tense of ὢν
Dear Friends, Joh 1,18 reads (RP 2005): Θεὸν οὐδεὶς ἑώρακεν πώποτε• ὁ μονογενὴς υἱός, ὁ ὢν εἰς τὸν κόλπον τοῦ πατρός, ἐκεῖνος ἐξηγήσατο. One German Translation (Bengel) translates ὁ ὢν as past tense. What is the precise force of this present tense and is it possible to take it as a past reference ? ...

Re: Two studies in the semantics of the verb in classical Gr
The book consists of two parts. Both deal with the semantics of the Greek verb. Part 1 discusses the Aspect Choice (Time reference or discourse function). Part 2 is about the synthetic perfect in classical Greek.

Phil 2:6 - aspect
BG-Friends, in Phil 2:6 we read: "hOS EN MORFH QEOU hUPARCWN OUC hARPAGMON hHGHSATO TO EINAI ISA QEW" (Sorry, I can't export the right greek font out of BibleWorks). I try to understand the combination of hUPARCWN (present) and hHGHSATO (aorist). The aspect of present is imperfective and t...

Re: Teaching Aspect and Aktionsart
Dear Mike, thank you indeed for the interesting examples. I'm teaching in German, but I have to give english examples to make this clear (e.g. John was reading, when I entered), as German has not a aspect system at all. We do this using adverbs. Thank you for this link, Mike ! I'll read the page aft...

Re: Teaching Aspect and Aktionsart
Dear Mike, it's a first grade seminary, but interested students want to learn and know more - "beyond the basics" so to say. That's why I needed a quite simple example or explanation. I have different concepts in my mind, but want them to hear the "communis opinio". Nice to hear ...

Teaching Aspect and Aktionsart
Dear B-Greek-Friends,
what is the best way to make the difference between "Verbal Aspect" and "Aktionsart" for my students clear? I'm looking for a good example or something like that.
Thank you !

Re: Two studies in the semantics of the verb in classical Gr
Dear Barry, Peter, perhaps you could supply us with a summary and some comments after you've had a chance to work through it, how helpful it was to you, and so forth. ok - I'll get my copy this week and will need some time for reading. Then I'll give a summary here. Especially I'm interested in Verb...

Two studies in the semantics of the verb in classical Greek
Dear Friends,
has anyone read "Two studies in the semantics of the verb in classical Greek" by Sicking/Stork (Brill, 1997) ?
The title sounds very interesting ! I just orderd a copy. Be careful: it's very expensive.
