Paul Rittman wrote: July 20th, 2023, 9:23 am Also, how do you get a Greek font in your posts? I tried pasting text that had a Greek font in MS Word, and it came out gibberish.
Copy from a web page, e.g.

Re: What is purpose and meaning of te in Gal 2:20?

Would it read, "by the faith that is in the Son of God..."?--which would make it a pronoun, and not an article? No. You have to look at the Greek to understand the Greek. Guessing at it from English translations simply doesn't work. But the Greek article sometimes does function like an En...

Re: What is purpose and meaning of te in Gal 2:20?

It's not really a relative, but in English we would probably say it something like you did: I live in/by/through faith, that is, the faith… But you do lose the emphasis somewhat that Greek used by fronting the phrase Yes. You can get some of that emphasis and word order back, I think, with a differ...

I stumbled on ProBible.net which appears to be scraping and reposting content from this site as its own with no link to the forum nor mention of original source. Bringing it to your attention in case not authorized. Example Original post: https://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&p...

Update: you can use these links to see full results for the queries we have been discussing. Turn on English glosses if you need them ...
  1. πνεύματι - all instances - probably not the most useful
  2. Objects of λατρεύω
  3. Adverbials with λατρεύω

Re: Phillipians 3:3 Is πνεύματι a dative of direct object here?

Whether it's called "direct object" or "indirect" or something else isn't the most relevant question. As we can see even in the beginning of the BDAG quote the default case for the target of worship is dative ("λ. θεῷ"). It's of course interesting why it has been inter...

Re: Phillipians 3:3 Is πνεύματι a dative of direct object here?

Why can't it be taken as a dative of direct object here? Isn't a dative of manner more straightforward? Two things to consider: 1. The "dative of direct object" is a somewhat suspect category. See, for instance: https://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4275&sid=c7cb7f63f88...

Re: God and Mark 12:32

Allan Bunning's Greek collations are helpful for seeing textual variants: www.greekcntr.org/collation/index.htm?41012032 He also provides an apparatus that is easier to read than most: www.greekcntr.org/apparatus/index.htm?41012032 There are some early manuscripts that contain the word θεὸς here, an...
