Re: Matthew 1:20
I conclude it must be okay to separate the adjective from the noun by a verb. I'm coming off a course in Pindar and he does it a lot. Huge caveat: it's poetry and dialectically distance from Koine but still. Here are some examples from an assignment I did on Isthmian 4.37–57: αὐτοῦ πᾶσαν ὀρθώσαις ἀ...

Re: Word Order: Y2 Hyperbaton in Matthew 1:20
Multi-level representations (like deep structure and surface structure) have been gone from generative linguistics for a while now. They've retained movement, of course. In Minimalist grammars, the structure can be derived entirely with merge and move. Well deep-structure vs surface-structure gave ...

Re: Word Order: Y2 Hyperbaton in Matthew 1:20
separating dominance relations from linear ordering relations If I understand correctly what's happening in the Minimalist Program, this too is now being done among generative linguists. GPSG doesn't* do it at the actual representation level, though, only the rules, whereas transformational grammar...

Re: Word Order: Y2 Hyperbaton in Matthew 1:20
In my opinion, once you're talking about discontinuous constituents (which is necessary for Greek), you've abandoned the benefits that constituency is supposed to deliver. When dependency is applied to languages like English, there are often extra constraint mechanisms put in place to try to preven...

Diacritic stacking fixed in Skolar PE
Users of the Skolar typeface for polytonic Greek who make use of macrons for vowel length will be pleased to know I worked with the type designer to improve diacritic stacking and the latest release fixes all known issues. Details are at http://jktauber.com/2016/12/04/diacritic-stacking-skolar-pe-fi...

Re: Adding accents
I should note that contraction does fit your video on the law of limitation, though it means that verbs are no longer recessive (which is not brought up in your video). Yes, good point. Post-contraction, the law of limitation is still followed. On the other hand, the evidence of quantitative metath...

Re: Adding accents
Or https://github.com/jtauber/greek-accentuation It's a nice video, but it needs to say something about the accentuation of πίστεως, which does not fit the rules. Note that link (or this thread) has nothing to do with my video, but I will add that the video is JUST explaining the law of limitation,...

Re: Adding accents
Does it modify accents for words in context, or does it just accent a single word? No, but I plan to support that. I started on it a year ago[1] but got sidetracked by the capitalization stuff[2] which I'm finally getting back to (hopefully with some b-greek help!) [1] http://jktauber.com/2015/11/2...

Re: Syllabified version of Greek NT Revelation
Coming late to this thread, but the `syllabify` function in https://github.com/jtauber/greek-accentuation (also now available in the Classical Language Toolkit http://cltk.org) can syllabify Greek.

Re: Adding accents
https://github.com/jtauber/greek-accentuation Cool! To what extent can I use this to, say, add accents to Greek from Alan Bunning's text? How accurate is it? To be honest, I've never tried it on a completely unaccented text. I use it for generating verbal paradigms and it successfully does that (so...
