Re: Matthew 2:16 2 year old boys or boys/girls
I found the following occurrences from a search of my available texts. You will have to read them yourself to determine if they would make sense as gender-neutral. Apophthegmata Laconica (Plutarch) 2.69.55 Πρεσβύτης ἐν Ὀλυμπίᾳ συντελουμένου τοῦ ἀγῶνος προθυμούμενος θεάσασθαι, καθέδρας ἠπόρει• πολλοὺ...

Re: Matthew 2:16 2 year old boys or boys/girls
Are there example of a masculine plural παῖδας that would indicate small children of any gender? (Other than this one) That would make it easier to determine whether such a meaning was intended here. You might even search for this specific phrase.

James 5:3c - Could it be a question?
I was talking to someone yesterday that took the last part of James 5:3, ἐθησαυρίσατε ἐν ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις as a question. The sense would therefore be a rhetorical one, such as "What have you stored up in/for/towards the last days?" Does this make sense linguistically/grammatically? Does it...

Re: Gal 4:3 ἦμεν and ἤμεθα
I don't have access to Steve Runge's works (or to Steve Runge ); does he deal at all with the significance of choice in this passage--not just with regard to αγαπη/φιλη but with the other pairs that Carl referred to?

Re: Range of meanings for οικος
Hi David, I'm actually trying to look at any usage of οικος possible, not just in the NT. I basically have Perseus, which is now much more conveniently available through Logos. Even within just the NT, I don't see any examples of οικος that really make more sense as "social group" rather t...

Range of meanings for οικος
On the previous B-Greek mailing list, I once posted a question about the meaning of οικος. Certain church growth movements and personalities have been using this Greek word as a concept in their understanding of evangelism and church growth. Their claim is that οικος means "extended family,&quo...

Re: Etymological New Testament
Hmmm. I wonder how Etymological New Testament would deal with the author's own last name, Wine? Should he have listed the author as "John Michael Fermented Vine Product" instead?
Just kidding, John Michael Wine, if you're on this list.

Re: Etymological New Testament
You can't make this stuff up! And yet... John Michael Wine appear to have done exactly that! I suppose I could buy it and add to my list of "NT Greek Urban Legends," but I'm afraid too many of the "ultra literalisms" would not be classified as such since they are original with h...

Re: Joseph Dasenbrock
You can find any number of textbooks, both online and in print. I have not personally used Randall Buth's "Living Koine Greek" method, simply because by the time I found out about it I was not in Learning-Greek-Mode. But from the samples I have seen I would recommend it, as an educator and...

Re: Hebrew OT vs LXX
So it is. I wonder who Bruce is? Is he someone on B-Greek that I might have read?
