Re: Best way into a self-taught "second year"?
I'm just about to finish working through Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek and the accompanying workbook. My plan for the summer and fall is to work through a few graded readers: Mounce's Graded Reader of Biblical Greek , Decker's Koine Greek Reader , and Whitacre's Patristic Greek Reader . Alongsi...

Re: John 21 ἀγαπάω / φιλέω
A very late follow-on question, but prompted by my looking once again at that breakfast on the seashore. I wonder myself whether the question of what upset Peter finds a possible solution in the τὸ τρίτον of ἐλυπήθη ὁ Πέτρος ὅτι εἶπεν αὐτῷ τὸ τρίτον• φιλεῖς με; where it seems to me that the sense i...

Re: Ranking NT books by difficulty
2 Corinthians is really tough. Upon trying to read through it, I had such difficulties I had to stop and go through Luke which I found enormously easier. 2 Cor was bit over my head and I wasn't getting enough comprehensible input fast enough from Paul in 2 Cor. 2 Corinthians has always been difficu...

Re: Ranking NT books by difficulty
Thanks for the link Louis. I particularly liked this post http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/b-greek/2002-August/022058.html detailing Dr. Wesley Pershchbacher list of the relatively difficulty of the NT. "Suggested Reading Order of New Testament Books from the Easiest to the Most Difficult, Ba...

Ranking NT books by difficulty
After reading this following link from the archives, I am posting my ranking of the order of NT books by difficulty. http://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/test-archives/html4/1996-03/12614.html John John 1-3 Mark Matthew Apocalypse Luke Philemon Philippians Romans Colossians Ephesians 1 Corinthians 1 Thessa...

Re: Acts 10:37 ἀρξάμενος
Alford notes: ἀρξάμενος is an unexpected transference of the case and gender into that of the prime agent, a construction common enough in the Apocalypse (4:1 reff.), but surprising in St. Luke. Henry Alford, vol. 2, Alford's Greek Testament: An Exegetical and Critical Commentary (Bellingham, WA: Lo...

Using Bibleworks to create Apostolic Fathers' Greek Reader
I applied the same method outlined on this webpage http://www.bibleworks.com/classroom/1_7/index.html to create a Greek reader for the Apostolic Fathers. It highlights all the vocabulary used in the NT 30x or more in blue, leaving the rest of the words in black unfamiliar to a newbie Greek student w...

Re: Word order in Luke 2:25
My gut feeling is that the Holy Spirit is fronted for emphasis in Luke 1:35 as well, Πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐπελεύσεται ἐπὶ σὲ.
