As I was reading from my Greek NT, I came across the following clause in Romans 9:5 ὁ ὢν ἐπὶ πάντων θεὸς εὐλογητὸς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας, ἀμήν. Exactly what is θεὸς syntactical function here? Is it appositive? Or is it functioning as the predicate?
Thanks

Re: Beginners: how are you learning? how is it going?
Hey, John, my advice at this point is to trash the interlinear. Start reading the Greek without it. Even if you only do one verse a day, it's far better for developing your ability to read the language than depending on instant English decoding. English you know -- it's Greek you have to develop. I...

Re: What Next after First Year Greek?
I know this is an old thread ... but speaking from personal experience I would second obtaining Decker's Graded Reader. It inductively gets the Greek student with at least a year of grammar under his belt into the Greek text. It also introduces the Koine Greek student into other texts other than the...

Re: 1 Peter 5:3
May the Lord protect us from the multiplication of genitives! :D But if someone put a sword to my throat and made me choose, I would say some type (!) of objective genitive, since it really means examples that the flock are to look toward or emulate. Thanks for the reply. So, τύποι ... τοῦ ποιμνίου...

My name is Justin and I have enthusiastic passion for reading the Greek New Testament. I began my journey of learning Koine Greek at Moody Bible Institute. I absolutely love my UBS Greek NT Reader edition which I use on a daily basis. I am currently working my way through Dr. Rod Decker's Graded Gre...

1 Peter 5:3
I have been reading the Greek NT from my UBS Greek Reader edition. I came upon First Peter 5:3 and had a question about τύποι γινόμενοι τοῦ ποιμνίου. My question is particularly about the genitive. Syntactically, how should the genitive be classified? My guess would be a subjective genitive. Thank y...
