Re: Hebrew / Greek texts to align
Ah, here's one place I can look, NETS includes a section called Translation Profile of the Greek for each book. Nice find! Those Translation Profiles almost all say this book is characterized by formal equivalence/isomorphism/quantitative equivalence/literalness/interlinearity. Job and Old Greek Da...

Re: Hebrew / Greek texts to align
For a project I am working on, I am looking for Hebrew / Greek texts where both the Hebrew and the Greek are natural and understandable, and where they have the same basic meaning, whether or not word order is similar or they say it in similar ways. What LXX passages would you look to first for thi...

Law and Beckwith do not address this verse.Brian Gould wrote: ↑July 12th, 2021, 1:50 pmIf you happen to know what either Law or Beckwith has to say about this verse, would you perhaps be so kind as to post something about it here at B-Greek?
Well, Beckwith does mention the citation formula, but that's all.

Re: Jones - Translation and Style in the Old Greek Psalter
It clearly shouldn't be listed under the Septuagint Commentary Series; her doctoral supervisor, Mark Boda, is assigned to write on the Psalms. FWIW, I was the external examiner for this dissertation. The editors of the Septuagint Monograph Series are not listed, but I expect they are the same as the...

Re: Ps 29 (30) v6
According to TLG, the Septuagint has the earliest attested instances of τὸ ἑσπέρας. In searching this up, I discovered this gem from PTOLEMAEUS, De differentia vocabulorum (= Περὶ διαφορᾶς λέξεων) [Sp.] (e codd. Ottobon. gr. 43 + Vat. gr. 197). {1643.003} page 393. τὸ ἑσπέρας τοῦ ὀψὲ διαφέρει· ἑσπέρ...

Re: Ps 29 (30) v6
In Ps 29 (30) v6, what is the force of the neuter article? τὸ ἑσπέρας αὐλισθήσεται κλαυθμὸς Is it because ἑσπέρας by itself (or with τῆς) would be ambiguous? Good question. I don't have a good answer. I'm guessing some noun is elided, but a plausible candidate is not coming to mind right now. Murao...

Well, a bit of both. I certainly don't give them all of Wallace's categories up front.Stephen Carlson wrote: ↑June 10th, 2021, 6:27 pmSo the answer is both?Ken M. Re: Teaching the Genitive
Do you give a basic meaning of possession or intrinsic relationship and hope the student infers the full usage in their reading, or do you go the full Wallace and give the students a list of 30+ possible meanings to audition? I give a basic meaning of nominal qualification using "-type" a...

Then I have no idea why you declared that the discussion of the meaning of πειρᾶζω has ended.
