Re: Theos?

Now, to answer your question directly, in general NT Greek prefers to use the article when referring to the one true God, but the article may be omitted in various context for syntactic reasons. It has to be looked at on a case by case basis.

Re: Help on a text from St John Damascene

Hello, Thank you very much for your reply. This is what I have found in some translations, especially ones from the Jesuits. But i'm not sure about the translation of it. It appears to me that Saint John of Damascus is using this term not in a way of causation of the Spirit but more about its revel...

Re: First time visit

Welcome, good to have you here. To answer your question, there is no aorist of εἰμί. The aorist is supplied by other forms such as the aorist of γίνομαι (ἐγενόμην).

Re: Can verbs have a case?

Normally the article is not used when the infinitive is being used as the subject or object. Having made that statement, I found this in my daily NT reading today: Rom 14:21 καλὸν τὸ μὴ φαγεῖν κρέα μηδὲ πιεῖν οἶνον μηδὲ ἐν ᾧ ὁ ἀδελφός σου προσκόπτει. "Normally" does not mean "never.....

Colloquia of the Hermeneumata Pseudodositheana

Working through the Colloquia of the Hermeneumata Pseudodositheana, mainly mining it for interesting sections to spring on my Latin students, found this in the Greek: ἑνεχυρον θέλεις; μὴ γένοιτο, οὐ χρείαν ἔχω... Lest you thought Paul was the only one ever to say μὴ γένοιτο! Lee Irons on Facebook po...

Re: Can verbs have a case?

This is where it's helpful to be a bit more precise with our metalanguage. Just to expand a bit for clarity: Finite verbs do not have case, finite meaning that the verb is marked for person and number. Participle derives from the Latin particeps, which means "to have a share in, sharing." ...
