Re: Koine Greek Reader, questions arising
With regard to stretching possibilities, how about taking ἐν Χριστῷ with ὀλίγον παθόντας rather than with τὴν αἰώνιον αὐτοῦ δόξαν? Somehow I feel that it is the article that makes one take it with δόξαν, but I am not 100% sure. "παθοντας" is accusative and hence doesn't match with "χ...

Re: Hebrew-Greek interlinear of OT
I've been searching for an interlinear of the OT (Hebrew) and the Greek. It would be great if the Greek was the LXX, translating the OT. I can't seem to find anything like this (I've seen interlinears with Hebrew/English (of the OT) and Greek/English (of the NT), but I'm looking for Hebrew/Greek (o...

Re: John 3,32 ὃ ἑώρακεν καὶ ἤκουσεν - question on tenses
I'm wondering about a possibly simplistic explanation. I don't have the means to do a proper analysis of how frequently ἤκουσεν occurs in the perfect. Is it possible that the explanation is simply that the perfect of this verb was a form which, for whatever reason, was not commonly used? I'll now w...

καὶ δώσω ὑμῖν ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα ὑμῶν. Καὶ ἐδόθη αὐτοῖς ἑκάστῳ στολὴ λευκή Is there an explanation why ὑμῖν ἑκάστῳ would have been written that way rather than ἑκάστῳ ὑμῶν, or αὐτοῖς ἑκάστῳ rather than ἑκάστῳ αὐτῶν? There must have been a systematic error in the authour's understanding of Greek sy...

Re: ἐν + dative meaning "because"
In this case, you will find the construction σκανδαλίζεσθαι ἔν τινι (dative), where the dative indicates the person who causes the offense - "I was offended by him", and the construction σκανδαλίζω τινά (accusative) someone - "he offended me". Note that both English and Greek ch...

Koine Greek seems to attach attributive elements more readily to an article-noun group without repeating the article. I looked this up in a couple of grammars. Winer (-Moulton) [3rd, p.166] seems to say that 1 John 5.20 has ἡ ζωὴ αἰώνιος in the Received Text (I haven't actually been able to find th...

Re: Talking about the future in a past tense narrative text
There is a fairly common way today to approach tense and aspect using time intervals, but it seems that clear that you're doing something different than that, and I don't understand how the pieces are supposed to fit together. In particular, you state that "the imperfect stem encodes imperfect...

Re: Talking about the future in a past tense narrative text
Thanks for the explanation. There's a lot going on here and, to make things more difficult, it appears unique. Due to its uniqueness and complexity, I'm not at a point where I can say much about it, though. The concept of "time in focus" isn't very clear. If you're conceiving "time i...

Re: Talking about the future in a past tense narrative text
Thanks for that. I notice that on page 12 he says "Markopoulos explains this phenomenon in a similar manner: the AOR.INF continued to denote perfective value, while the PRES.INF could be used for both perfective and imperfective.". As I said before, I too think that the present tense in K...
