Syllabified version of Greek NT Revelation

Post by MarkokraM »

I'd like to know, if there is a place to review a syllabified version of the Greek Revelation (Textus Receptus 1550). I'd like to be as sure as possible if given text is syllabified as correctly as it would have been syllabified by original author(s) of the book. I'm not so much interested of the discussion about the authenticity of the different Greek text bases. I have syllabified 6 different versions, TR is one of them and my test case.

So my question is also, if one can be sure of the number of syllables in the text? I can provide text on the second post in CAPITAL Greek letters if someone wants to take a look. Also if someone already knows a syllabified Greek NT text it would be nice to know.

What would you use a syllabified text for?

I don't know how to define "sure" for something like this, we have no recordings of people speaking Greek from the Hellenistic period, but we definitely know how Greek is syllabified today, which is reasonably similar to the way English is syllabified. Most books I've seen teach rules that are similar to those of modern Greek and English. Greek verse gives a lot of clues for syllabification too, as well as the length of vowels, but this also varies by time and place - I assume you only want to know what the syllabification rules were during the Hellenistic period.

How "sure" do you need to be? I wouldn't base a theology on any set of syllabification rules ...

Coming late to this thread, but the `syllabify` function in https://github.com/jtauber/greek-accentuation (also now available in the Classical Language Toolkit http://cltk.org) can syllabify Greek.
