Is the article genitive article anaphoric at 2 Peter 1:11?

Post by Scott Lawson »

I’m asking for a friend who posed this question to me:

Does the article του that is construed with κυριου at 2Peter 1:11 act anaphorically pointing back to του κυριου in verse 8?

2 Peter 1:8-11

Well, that have the same referent, so it that sense, yes. But usually we talk kabout anaphors in the context of a referring expression whose proper interpretation relies on that previous context. In both vs 8 and vs 11, that isn't the case since the fully stated phrase includes all the relevant information. In vs. 11, τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν καὶ σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ doesn't has any such interpretive challenge that would requiring "resolving" the anaphoric reference.
