The Structures of Growth: Learning Is No Easy Task

This item by NYT columnist David Brooks appeared several days ago; I noted it then but didn't read it until this morning. Much of what it has to say is relevant to the process(es) of learning a language. It may not ring a bell with everybody, but I found it rather intriguing.
