Alpheios Toolbar
The Alpheios Project http://alpheios.net/ makes software for reading ancient Greek texts online. Alpheios is a web browser add-in that lets you turn Greek text on a web page into a live Greek text with pop-up parsing and lexicon integration.

Re: Alpheios Toolbar
Here are several readers where Alpheios is useful:
The online critical Pseudepigrapha:http://ocp.tyndale.ca/testament-of-job#1-1
Bible Gateway: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?se ... ion=SBLGNT
Bibliotheca Augustana:http://www.hs-augsburg.de/~Harsch/graec ... alpha.html
Unfortunately, web pages that have double click links like laparola.net/greco which redirect or have links to pop-up features such as The Project on Ancient Cultural Engagement (PACE): http://pace.mcmaster.ca/york/york/showText?text=anti do not work correctly with Alpheios.
Then again, a person can cut text and paste it into the hopperizer, link the text to Perseus' hopper and read it - doing it in the hopperizer gets you the Alpheios windows in the text side, and gives the full Perseus Greek Word Tool (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/morph?)results in the right side. Here is a sample of what the hopperizer can do without Alpheios installed: http://www.letsreadgreek.com/hopperizer ... ities1.htm
In the University of Chicago's implementation of Perseus under Philologic, you get both their vocab popup window and Alpheios pop-up window to appear.
Hopefully, New Testament syntactic treebanks will be availalbe for Alpheios, and can be viewed in the Alpheios reader interface http://alpheios.net/alpheios-texts/Alph ... m107.html#.
So there are a lot of ways to use software to help you learn Greek. Alpheios is a really useful tool. You need to install the Firefox browser to use it.

Re: Alpheios Toolbar
I really like this. Here is an overview of the functionality:

Unfortunately, it is Firefox only, but aside from that, it's a great tool! You have to install the plugin and restart the browser.

Re: Alpheios Toolbar
Louis, you can also change the trigger for the Alpheios popups to mouseover when you're on a site which has links or other event handlers that conflict with the double-click. From the Alpheios toolbar, select Help, Options. On the General tab you will see a set of radio buttons which allow you to choose mousemove or click. It can be a little annoying to use the mousemove trigger, but it does allow you to access the Alpheios popups in this case.Louis L Sorenson wrote:Unfortunately, web pages that have double click links like laparola.net/greco which redirect or have links to pop-up features such as The Project on Ancient Cultural Engagement (PACE): http://pace.mcmaster.ca/york/york/showText?text=anti do not work correctly with Alpheios.

Re: Alpheios Toolbar
Actually, Alpheios is also pretty useful when reading B-Greek, it's the fastest way to look up the bits you don't immediately grasp. It's also useful when reading private email if people send you tricky Greek texts.
And the combination of Alpheios with MorphGNT's simple reader is very nice indeed:

Mouseover gives you the basics thanks to MorphGNT, double click gives you more in-depth information.
