Καὶ ἦν διδάσκων τὸ καθʼ ἡμέραν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ

How do I work out the meaning of a Greek text? How can I best understand the forms and vocabulary in this particular text?

Needless to say, the places without outnumber those with more than 4:1, plus is peculiar to the Lucian corpus :)
That is of course if you don't take the apostolic fathers into account. Although, to be fair I only found one example there

Ad Autol. iii. 30.

I understand that one use may be to substantivize/nominalise the prepositional phrase. Does this therefore make the teaching being referred to something more concrete/consistent than omitting the article? By omitting the article the teaching would therefore not necessarily be flagged by the author as being the same each day?
The same phrase occurs in the Lord's Prayer:
Luke 11:3 wrote:τὸν ἄρτον ἡμῶν τὸν ἐπιούσιον δίδου ἡμῖν τὸ καθ’ ἡμέραν·
I looked for adverbial phrases containing τὸ followed by a prepositional phrase and found only four results in the Greek New Testament. Three of these were the phrase τὸ καθ’ ἡμέραν, all three occurrences are Luke or Acts:

Here's the fourth:

Rom.12.18 εἰ δυνατόν, τὸ ἐξ ὑμῶν μετὰ πάντων ἀνθρώπων εἰρηνεύοντες·
➡️ τὸ ἐξ ὑμῶν

But the phrase καθ’ ἡμέραν occurs frequently without the article, even in Luke, with similar meaning.

Matt.26.55

ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;
