Oops, sorry, got the postpositive thingy around the wrong way, mixing it up with prepositive. I think I can recall post as being in relation to the word posted before. Pre is in relation to the word proceeding it. Whew over 30 years since I did this grammar stuff at school. Thanks for pointing that out. I will slow down and thoroughly check before posting in the future. And yes I got out of my depth here and bit off more than I could chew. I am at basic level of Greek. Currently learning Greek here with you on
https://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum and
https://www.duolingo.com/ and using BibleHub and other online resources.
To make progress, you'll need to find an approach that involves lots of reading, in Greek, at a level that is appropriate for you. Perhaps John or 1 John might be a good place to start. And you'll need a Greek grammar. Duolingo is modern Greek, not Hellenistic Greek, there's unfortunately no Rosetta Stone or Duolingo for New Testament Greek.
Biblehub has lots of good resources, including commentaries, but you need something that keeps you focused on the Greek, interlinears and commentaries and such are way too distracting and keep you from thinking in Greek.
Oh dear, I thought that this was okey for me to use:
http://biblehub.com/text/colossians/2-17.htm
I didn't realize that this biblehub greek was not Hellenistic Greek. Sorry I've been looking at this greek on this site of Biblehub: Nestle GNT 1904, Stephanus Textus Receptus 1550, etc
I haven't been using the interlinears and commentaries on Bible Hub
Ok, I'll look for Hellenistic Greek online and go to John 1 and John
Sorry I thought I was doing the right thing coming on this site to this page:
Someone said my english bible version was wrong, there's version was correct, but mine was wrong They said the word 'substance' proved my bible was wrong, I tried another Bible which had the word 'reality'. They said that I have to get rid of my versions and get their version: Complete Jewish Bible, the correct version, they said. So I said that before I do that, I would look at the Greek. Before this I had only did one week of Biblical Greek with a Professor in ancient linguistics over 25 years ago and dabbled in greek over the years.
So now you are saying that I need to go to John or John 1 in the Hellenistic Greek Bible to check to see if my Bible's are okey.
Sorry I thought that I was doing the right thing here coming on this site:
https://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/forum/index.php
Clicking:
Beginners Forum
The forum for those who still struggle with morphology, syntax, and idiom, or who wish to discuss basic questions about the meaning of Greek texts, syntax, or words.
Then clicked:
What does this text mean?
How do I work out the meaning of a Greek text? How can I best understand the forms and vocabulary in this particular text?
This came up with a page saying:
Forum rules
This is a beginner's forum - see the Koine Greek forum for more advanced discussion of Greek texts. Please quote the Greek text you are discussing directly in your post if it is reasonably short - do not ask people to look it up.
When answering questions in this forum, keep it simple, and aim your responses to the level of the person asking the question.
So I made a post, in it stating: 'My very limited understanding of Greek'
Sorry i thought that I was doing the right thing coming here, in the way I did. Quoting the greek text and asking what it meant. I thought as the page said, that it was for beginners, not realizing that I am not at beginners level yet. Sorry this page didn't indicate this to me. It also didn't say that if your level is less than a beginner then to only ask questions from John or 1 John.
So till I can learn greek better maybe I think that I might just get a copy of the Complete Jewish Bible or Berean Study Bible.
However, you have been a tremendous help to me, it seemed to much for me on what this person was going on about on Colossians 2:17, but you showed it to me in a way I could better understand it, thanks for that. I will thus go on a path of finding about learning the Hellenistic Greek you mentioned and look at it in John and 1 John. Thanks for that.
