Can a prepositional phrase be adverbial?

This is probably a beginner's question, but I was reading 1 Peter 3:7 which says:

Οἱ ἄνδρες ὁμοίως, συνοικοῦντες κατὰ γνῶσιν ὡς ἀσθενεστέρῳ σκεύει τῷ γυναικείῳ, ἀπονέμοντες τιμὴν ὡς καὶ συγκληρονόμοις χάριτος ζωῆς εἰς τὸ μὴ ἐγκόπτεσθαι τὰς προσευχὰς ὑμῶν.

and I was wondering if the prepositional phrase κατὰ γνῶσιν can be considered adverbial i.e. describing the "how" with regard to the verb (participle) συνοικοῦντες. If so, is this kind of usage common in Koine Greek?

Thanks! --Mitch

The vast majority of preposition phrases modify verbs, yes.

And to be precise, yes, it modifies συνοικοῦντες.

Thanks! Now that I think about it, that makes sense in English as well :-P
