The Pluperfect

Post by PhillipLebsack »

I've done a search and I can't find any posts that were just about the pluperfect on the site. I've seen different things about the pluperfect. Most of them contradictory.

I'm wondering if someone could explain the proper understanding of the pluperfect, and grammatically how it works and how the verb is inflected to show that it is pluperfect?

My current understanding is that the pluperfect is like past perfect.

Examples:
Perfect --> Phillip has eaten an apple.
Pluperfect --> Phillip had eaten an apple.

It is also my current understanding that the pluperfect is formed by using the aorist/imperfect epsilon augment + the perfect deduplication.

Is all of this correct?
