Longus, Daphnis & Chloe, Book 1, Chapter 16, section 5 (final part) - text and helps
In this final part part of the chapter, Daphnis prompts Chloe to remember her own upbringing.
Longus, Daphnis & Chloe, Book 1, Chapter 16, section 5 (final part) wrote:Μέμνησο δέ, ὦ παρθένε, ὅτι καὶ σὲ ποίμνιον ἔθρεψεν, ἀλλὰ καὶ ὣς εἶ καλή.
Helps / walk-through:
  • Μέμνησο "Remember!" - a perfect imperative - "recall all your thoughts and make a realisation (Ah!! Yeah, now I remember."). Followed by ὅτι ... and the thing remembered.
  • παρθένε "young woman".
  • ποίμνιον "a flock (of sheep)".
  • ἔθρεψεν σὲ "reared / nourished you"
  • ἀλλὰ καὶ "yet also".
  • ὣς - "thus", "so".
  • εἶ - "you are".
  • καλή - "beautiful", "virtuous", "honourable". This is an adjective.

This was a very short excerpt from a simple work - the whole work is 145 chapters over 4 books.

It was good practice for the genitive of comparison and adjectives with ὡς + noun giving further meaning to them.
