Ancient Greek Dictionary in Ancient Greek

Post by Daniel Semler » September 14th, 2019, 12:13 pm

Hi All,

Does anyone know of a dictionary of classical or koine written classical or koine ?

This might sound mildly mad but I think it would help with immersion in the language.
The only example I have is Juan Coderch's translation of the Little Prince into Attic, which provides vocab helps in Attic.

Thx

Even better, use your favorite software or TLG to search samples in context and build your on lexicon.

I thought about becoming my own lexicographer. A worthy project for sure but .... Hmmm....

Serious linguists I have known read tons of primary sources. Don't rely on Lexicons.

I would say trust but verify. Serious lexicographers have also read tons of primary sources.

Many thanx for pointing this one out Paul. Very interesting. I found this helpful review on Amazonhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/R3 ... 889097110X which gives the number of head words and a few other bits of information.

A tad pricey, as I think has been said. But definitely worth a thought.

And a thread on Textkit : https://www.textkit.com/greek-latin-for ... hp?t=63332

I bought it. The price is high because it is a well made, quality book, especially the weight of paper. It has plenty of room for notes. If a person wanted to have an sort of "dialogue" with the author in Koine, I think it could be a fruitful learning exercise. I haven't done so yet, but still hope to.

I get the quality thing for sure, and I'm always up for another lexicon, but there's also Brill (and their etymological one) and I am waiting on the new Cambridge too.

So many lexica, so little time :)
