Absolute (not Vodka)

Cunliffe in his Homeric lexicon uses the term ABSOLUTE in manner that I cannot
figure out. He applies the term to TO KRHGUON in Iliad A106. 

My best guess is that Cunliffe means that the adjective is being used as a
substantive but I don't have much confidence in this guess. The only other
places I see the term used are in reference to constructions with genitive and
accusative participles. I cannot fit this usage together with Cunliffe's usage
so I am confused. 

Would appreciate some help on this.
