What is the meaning of "worthy" in Matthew 8.8

The word is" ikanos" and it means:

 of persons." fit,  worthy (MT 8.8); 
qualified, adequate, competent" (2C 2.16). 

The centurion who was a Gentile (and possibly a prosylete to Judaism) admits
his own unworthiness for a godly rabbi such as Jesus to favor him with a
visit. A Gentile's dwellings were ceremonly unclean for a Jew to come inside
was to risk ceremonial defilement.
