Let me interject, before this goes any farther, that this second paragraph
broaches theological and hermeneutical questions which are NOT the province
of appropriate discussion for this list. List-members bring too many
DIFFERENT assumptions to such questions to expect any consensus on them, so
let's steer clear of them, please.
