In footnote 20 of the preface (page xix) Wallace states:

One general exception to this appoach involves the rare categories that are
frequently appealed to in commentaries (e.g. dative of agency, imperitival
participle); these should be recognized if only to help the student become
critical of their overuse in exegetical works. Most such abused categories
are highlighted by a dagger in the left margin.
