I don't really find an adequate discussion of what I have called the
"supplementary participle" construction in our text, EPEFANH GAR hH CARIS
TOU QEOU SWTHRIOS PASIN ANQRWPOIS PAIDEUOUSA hHMAS ... in the NT reference
works available to me; BDF ##414-416 do deal with the construction as
relates to verbs of cognition and perception, but don't discuss this
passage; nor does A.T. Robertson mention it in his discussion of
supplementary participles in the big grammar, pp. 1119-1124. The nearest
that Wallace comes to discussing these participles, so far as I can find,
is his discussion of participles in indirect discourse (pp. 645-6) and
complementary participles (p. 646), nor does his brief references to Titus
2:11 bear upon our question. At any rate, I find nothing in these grammars
to make me want to alter what I said about this passage yesterday.
