Recommended readings for a beginner

When I did Greek as an undergrad we started with grammar/vocabulary (from
Wenham) but pretty soon we were doing John's Gospel (without the prologue as
it's too well known). That and Mark for comparative writing styles (and
structure). Mark has a lot of stories joined together so there isn't the
necessity to concentrate for hours on end (as you would if you were reading,
say, the lengthy passages from the middle onwards on John).

Hope this helps.
