On Zondervan's website, you will find this statement regarding copyright:

NOTE: If the date at the copyright line for books published in the United
States is 1922 or before, you do not need to request permission to use the
material because the copyright has expired.
I guess that means the 1937 edition of Abbott-Smith [my first lexicon,
bought on our family's first train journey] is still in copyright.
