That seems to hit the nail on the head (assuming one wants such a 
colloquial translation). Such a statement doesn't seem to be a typical 
middle-class sentiment, does it?

Such colloquial translations can be lots of fun. For example:

<< Do not store up for yourself a portfolio in the stock market, where a 
falling DOW or computer hackers can steal; but store up for yourselves a 
portfolio in heaven, where neither a falling DOW nor computer hackers can 
alter its value. For where your portfolio is, there your heart will be 
also >> (Mt 6:19-21 [paraphrased]).
