My graduate training is in linguistics. I consider Black's book to be good.
I do not believe it is designed for learning or teaching Greek, per se, but,
rather, to help one understand better the language structures of Greek.
Modern linguistics offers important insights into understanding Greek and
Black contributes well to this understanding. For those teaching Greek, the
book can be a good supplement to other, more pedagogically oriented,
materials.
