Dear Barry,
You stress the action orientation of the words AGAPH and AGAPAW.
Someone else has already pointed to the use of AGAPAW in 2 Sam 13 (2 Kgs 13
LXX). While Jim may argue that the word changed its meaning from the time
of the LXX to the NT era, he has not shown proof of this fact. The NT does
not treat romantic relationships much; so this aspect of the word might not
come up there.
Amnon loved Tamar (2 Kgs 13:1). But he was distressed to the point of
sickness because it seemed very difficult for him to do anything to her (v.
2). He loved her emotionally without having done anything.
Sincerely,
Harold Holmyard
