NT in Latin

Dear B-greekers,

I know that this list is B-greek and not B-latin, but I have a question.

Why does _Novum Testamentum Latine_ edited by the Alands exist?

It seems to be nothing more than a retroversion into Latin of NA26/27.
Every place that I've checked for variant readings (I admit that I
haven't checked that many) has the reading accepted in the Greek text of
NA26/27 even if that reading is not the true reading of the Vulgate. What
purpose would such a retroversion serve?

The existence of NTL is certainly not justified by its apparatus. The
apparatus is _not_ a collation of the best and most ancient mss. Rather
it is a collation of 16th and 20th century editions of the Vulgate. IMHO
this limits its value greatly.

Admittedly, I do not read Latin very well. Perhaps I have missed
something in the Alands' introduction. I do not understand why the Alands
spent so much time and effort on this book.

Can anyone enlighten me?
