Yes, I think that it is a genitive absolute. Daniel Wallace, in _Greek
Grammar beyond the Basics_, p. 655, gives ONTOS in John 5:13 as an example
of a genitive absolute that does not come at the beginning of a sentence,
but he says that these constructions are unusual.
