It's just a more long-winded way of putting the NRSV version " as was his 
custom. ":
I would suggest that what needs bringing out here is not a point about a 
participle, but the fact that Luke, alone of the Synoptics, stresses the 
"habitual frequenting of the synagogue by Jesus " ( Fitzmyer )

EINEKEN here = dictionary form ENEKEN
and the entry from ANLEX ( The Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New 
Testament ) reads:
