Long NT Greek sentances

the granddaddy of them all is eph 1:3-14.  though punctuated in NA, it is
truly one sentence.  

the function of these overlong sentences seems to be an effort by the author
to show his grammatical skill.  much the same way as modern dissertations
attempt to dazzle the committee with the writer's learnedness.  (or, much
the same way as some answers to questions tend to drone on and on rather
than merely answering the issue at hand....)
